It was supposed to be a wedding announcement. After the third postponement, the union between Massimo and Cristina would have been celebrated in October. This is Massimo Segre, accountant, financier and banker close to Carlo De Benedetti. Segre’s mother was the only person outside the family to hold one percent of the De Benedetti limited partnership as well as being their trusted accountant. She is Cristina Seymandi, forty years old, former collaborator of the former mayor Appendino who later moved on to Paolo Damilano, center-right candidate for mayor, defeated in the elections by center-left candidate Stefano Lo Russo.
Everything was ready, including participations. But the party organized to celebrate the future spouses, in one of the most prestigious Turin villas, had a surprise ending. Every enthusiasm turned into icy silence when Massimo Segre spoke in front of the guests. He pretended that his he was a normal speech: he thanked his friends, confessed to being a little excited, received the applause. Then he changed his tone, revealing that he would no longer marry Cristina Seymandi.
In a video circulating on the net and published in Lo Spiffero it is possible to hear every word of his speech: «I have always thought that loving a person is wishing for his good, even more than one’s own – he says – in this case, I wish to give Cristina the freedom to love. In particular, another person, a well-known lawyer.’
The situation is so far-fetched that it seems like a joke. The former bride-to-be is petrified to hear her boyfriend’s accusations. Segre’s speech becomes more and more serious: she denounces other betrayals and lies. And he does it in front of almost a hundred guests. She turns around, tries to understand what is happening, the man continues: “Don’t think I’m pleased to look like a cuckold in front of all of you.”
“Cristina is so good at telling her truths, that I could not leave the narration of the reason why I end my life together tonight”. She adds, however, that they will still be able to work together. She will talk about it when they return from a trip they were supposed to take together. “You can do it with your lawyer,” suggests the man. The lights go out, silence. The curtain closes, the music dies down. To then start again a moment later, as if nothing had happened. It could be a movie scene or the ending of Temptation Island. And instead it is a story that shakes “Torino well”. Even among his closest friends, many were angry that they had been involved in this staging that had been prepared in detail for some time.
The story could also have legal aftermath: Cristina does not rule out reporting her now ex-boyfriend for private violence.
