Turandot 50th Anniversary Production at Latvian National Opera and New York Metropolitan Opera

Opera. Giacomo Puccini Turandot the production at the Latvian National Opera (LNO) is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The premiere of the production by maestro Rihardas Glāzups, director Jānis Zariņš, scenographer and costume designer Edgars Vārdaunis took place on December 29, 1973 with Germain Heini-Wagneri in the title role and Kārli Zariņa in the role of Kalaf. Turandot the performance on January 5 will be dedicated to this anniversary. An hour before the performance, visitors are invited to meet the three soloists who played the title role in Puccini’s masterpiece on the LNO stage, Solveig Raja, Ieva Kepi and Júlija Vasiļjeva (she will sing Turandot on January 5). In the role of Kalaf, Latvian audiences will hear the French and Tunisian tenor Amadi Laga for the first time. At the conductor’s desk – Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.

Opera. Saturday, January 6, at the Riga cinema Forum Cinemas live from New York’s Metropolitan Opera will feature Giuseppe Verdi sold out production. The classically sumptuous show directed by Elaijas Mošinskas will be conducted by maestro Daniēle Kallegāri. Concert. Premiere. Director Toms Treinis has staged a play in the Valmiera theater A particle, which was inspired by the outstanding Latvian track and field athlete Jānis Daliņš (1904–1978), born in Valmiera. He won a silver medal at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and became the first European walking champion in 1934 in Turin. “In Valmiera, there is a stadium named after him, there is a monument, a mural and Jāņa Daliņa street. There is an interesting story behind this man, how he became one of the greatest athletes in Latvian history,” says Toms Treinis. The author of the script of the play is Mārtiņš Meiers.
