tunnel will take the traffic under the NBU

This and a bridge at “Sukhodol” will draw a new route for the western arc – different from the one launched by API, MRRD and the city in June

A new project to remove Sofia’s massive traffic jam on “Tsar Boris III” boulevard and the surrounding area broke unexpectedly in the middle of the political crisis around official power and early voting.

On the way to a press conference on Tuesday morning, where he asked the head of the Ministry of the Interior to resign and in this way block the road to the October elections, Boyko Borisov also produced a project to solve the transport problems in the capital city.

The head of GERB said that he spent an hour and a half in the morning in a traffic jam on the western arc of the Sofia roundabout. He used the time to make a picture of how the road should be widened in this part and

even costing the project

Borisov quickly gave his opinion to the reporters who came to learn GERB’s position on the crisis after the president refused to sign a decree for the “Grancharova-Kozhareva” cabinet. He did not fail to say that he did not call about his opinion either to the Road Group or to the regional mayor “Poduyane” Kristiyan Hristov from PP-DB-SS, whose mother is now Violeta Koritarova is the acting provincial minister.

In this part, the ring road has been narrow and congested for years. After the extension of the southern arc to highway gasses, which reached the residence “Boyana”, the road crosses the boulevard “Tsar Boris Treti” as a four-lane street and arrives in this form all the way to the “Lyulin” residential area, where it turns into a highway again.

Borisov’s idea is to make a tunnel in the area of the New Bulgarian University with the help of moles that dig underground parts of the subway. This will introduce the intense movement below.

“I sketched how to enter with a tunnel, here at “Bila”, to exit at AONSU, so that two moles of the metro pass each other. After that, a bridge will be built that will take the traffic to the “Sukhodol” area, he said.

“The bridge and the tunnel are no further than the bridge “Hemus” and Brussels” (ed. – which leads to the airport). From there we go out to Suhodol and into Lyulin highway. And we will make Sofia’s ring”, Borisov further explained to the political commentators. All this would take a year and a half.

This avoids the creation of a complex road junction in “Kniazhevo”, where the roundabout intersects with Blvd “Tsar Boris III”. apart from

Ambulances will have quick access to the National Children’s Hospital in the future, which will be built in “Gorna Banya”.

Borisov promised to talk more about his opinion in the upcoming election campaign.

For now, it is completely against the concept project that was launched in June, prepared by a joint working group between the API, the Ministry of Planning and Development and the Metropolitan Municipality. It is also not clear what will happen to the other two problematic kilometers of the western arc between “Tsar Boris III” and the residence “Boyana”, which also creates traffic jams every working day.

The conceptual project of the city and the Ministry of Planning and Development envisages that the expansion of the western arc will start with a small section from the beginning of the highway “Struma” to the roundabout on “Zapadna Tangenta” Blvd., so a ‘ to ensure a connection from the highway to the National Children’s Hospital in the future.

This section will reach the boulevard “President Lincoln”, crossing the buffer parking area of the metro station “Mizia” and practically has nothing to do with the current route of the ring road, which passes through “Sukhodol”. It was chosen because most of the land is municipal property and represents inter-block spaces in “Ovcha Kupel”.

The alien modes for now

they have not started because there is no detailed development plan. Only when it is prepared will benefits be assessed.

The remaining part of the extension of the western arc is divided into two main subsections – from “Boyana” to “Tsar Boris III” boulevard and from there to the beginning of the small section. The most advanced stage at the moment is the extension from “Boyana” to the driveway. In the middle of June, a notice of the Capital Municipality was published in the “State Gazette” that the PUP and the amendment of the street management plan of the affected areas were ready. Two weeks ago, the one-month deadline for written objections, suggestions and requests expired.

The changes will affect the tram lines on the “Tsar Boris III”, which according to the project will stay at ground level, and the different routes of the ring road will pass on them below and above. The extension will follow the current route of the ring road in this part of it, and on both sides it is full of built-up areas – gas stations, low-rise buildings, garages, shops and warehouses. They have to comfort themselves.

The rest of the western arc has a detailed development plan approved by the Ministry of Planning and Development, but assessments are still being made for the land.

However, a large part of the residents of “Knyazhevo” do not agree at all with the “Tsar Boris III” boulevard, because they fear that the complex intersection will increase the traffic through their neighborhood even more. The idea of it Boyko Borisov in practice, it is in their favor, but the issue with these two kilometers, without which the capital will not have a complete road circle, is still unresolved.
