SFAX. Tunisia and Indonesia discussed ways to strengthen economic relations and bilateral cooperation in the scientific and cultural fields. This occurred during a meeting between Tunisian President Kais Saied at the capital’s Carthage Palace and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, according to a statement from the Tunisian presidency published on its official Facebook account.
The statement reads that Saied praised “the historic relations between Tunisia and Indonesia”, underlining his country’s desire to “strengthen and diversify ties, especially in important economic sectors, as well as other opportunities for cooperation and exchange in cultural and scientific fields”. She added that “Tunisia maintains its firm position in support of Palestinian rights and its constant closeness to its people in the face of ongoing attacks.”
For his part, Marsoudi sent “a letter of invitation, addressed to the Tunisian president by his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo, to visit Jakarta, and Saied welcomed this invitation”, reads the statement.
The Indonesian minister expressed his country’s “satisfaction with the level of cooperation, consultation and coordination relations it has with Tunisia”, underlining “Jakarta’s desire to develop strong ties, especially in areas of common interest, including trade, phosphate export and defence”.
Marsoudi arrived in Tunisia for a one-day visit, as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries, in light of the common positions of Tunis and Jakarta.
