Tunisia president sidelines parliament and expels prime minister | Abroad

The protesters demanded the dissolution of parliament and the resignation of the government. Tunisia is struggling with the economic consequences of the corona pandemic that has hit the country hard. Sunday’s protests echoed slogans against the ruling Ennahda party of parliament speaker Rached Ghannouchi, who on Sunday immediately accused the president of committing a coup.

Since taking office in 2019, President Saied has been embroiled in a battle with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament, at the expense of the country’s governability.
