The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDS) held the government responsible for the “violent security treatment” of social movements.
The FTDS warns, in a statement released on Sunday, against the consequences of this approach, at a time when the country is experiencing a global crisis which calls for a political leadership that respects rights and freedoms.
The Forum considers that the intervention of the security forces against the supporters of the African Club “who demonstrated peacefully” on Saturday in front of the headquarters of the Tunisian Football Federation was violent. The organization regrets the arrests and attacks that did not spare passers-by who happened to be on the scene.
The Forum calls for all those implicated in this violence to be brought to justice and to hold the Minister of the Interior to account for the violations committed. He also calls for the immediate release of those arrested and respect for the presumption of innocence, avoiding collective and arbitrary punishments.
In its statement, the FTDS underlines that the use of force was also observed during the protests of teachers and those of supervisors in front of the Ministry of Education.
For its part, the Ministry of the Interior explained that several supporters of the African Club tried to enter by force in the sports establishments surrounding the place of the demonstration and by interposing themselves in these attempts, the security units were the target. throwing stones and projectiles, causing injuries of varying degrees in the ranks of security, rushed to hospital.
