Is this because of the impact of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s policy of banning the export of CPO cs, including cooking oil?
For information, the ban on the export of raw materials for cooking oil and cooking oil has been in effect since April 28, 2022. The scope of the ban includes crude palm oil (CPO), RPO, RBD Palm Olein, POME, and Used Cooking Oil. This policy aims to suppress domestic cooking oil prices.
Responding to the decline in cooking oil prices, the Economist of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Nailul Huda assessed it as a strategy for each retailer.
“The price drop is different, because of the program from each retailer. This is to attract people to shop at the retail. Because cooking oil can be a magnet to attract customers at this time. So, they will give cooking oil discounts, to attract customers. Then customers are expected to shop other than cooking oil to increase the income of retail players,” said Nailul, to detikcom, Sunday (1/5/2022).
