The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 began Thursday, January 7, at the Tulle hospital center. In two days, more than 300 people were vaccinated.
Who is concerned ? This vaccination campaign currently concerns staff at the Tulle hospital over the age of 50 and / or presenting risk factors, as well as residents of Ehpad Les Fontaines and Le Chandou, dependent on the hospital center.
From the end of next week, vaccination will be open to liberal health professionals (doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, midwives, etc.) under the same age conditions and / or risk of comorbidities.
“Health professionals must make an appointment by phone at a number that we have provided to the councils of the order. In partnership with the Limoges University Hospital, they will also be able to make an appointment online on the doctolib site, ”explains Éric Villeneuve, the director of the hospital center.
How is vaccination organized? The residents of the two nursing homes were vaccinated in their respective establishment. Regarding the hospital, two rooms located at the emergency level were requisitioned. One for administrative support and the other for the vaccination itself.
Marcelle, 100, is the first to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in Corrèze
“The vaccines are provided to us by the Brive hospital in the form of vials each containing five doses. We store them in fridges at a temperature of 3-4 degrees with a conservation that should not exceed five days. Once thawed, the dose of vaccine must be used within the next 4 hours, ”explains Éric Villeneuve.
Avoid losses
Faced with these constraints, the challenge is to match, as closely as possible, the number of people to be vaccinated and the number of doses sufficient to avoid losing any.
“There was a rapid and very strong mobilization of staff to set up this organization”, welcomes the director.
“Unlike other hospitals, we have no shortage of arms for this campaign,” adds Dr. Alain Guillon, the president of the establishment medical commission.
Administrative staff, a nursing assistant, four nurses and three doctors are mobilized between the administrative support, the preparation of the doses, the vaccination, the disinfection of the boxes, the taking of blood pressure and the placing under surveillance for fifteen minutes after the injection of vaccinated people.
Has the call to be vaccinated been heard? Yes according to Éric Villeneuve. In a day and a half, 300 people were vaccinated, including 140 residents out of the 180 of the two nursing homes.
“Of the just under 400 hospital workers aged 50 and over, 160 have been vaccinated. Most will be done next week. Obviously, some do not want it and others wait to have a little more perspective to make a decision, ”notes Éric Villeneuve who was himself vaccinated.
