Tulio Mosquera died in Chocó during the Eln kidnapping

The criminal actions of the Eln claimed a new victim in the country. The former mayoral candidate for Alto Baudo, Chocó, Tulio Mosquera Asprilla, kidnapped by the guerrillas for 26 months, died in captivity during the passage of a swollen river.

The Episcopal Conference confirmed this Friday that the armed group asked it to receive the location of the corpse of the liberal politician, kidnapped in a rural area and who would have drowned.

Asprilla Mosquera was kidnapped on August 24, 2019. The ELN demanded $ 3 billion for his release.

“The Church of Chocó and the region cry out for the life and freedom of people in the power of armed groups. Now the ELN asks that we receive the location of the body of Tulio Mosquera Asprilla, ”reported the Archbishop of Cali, Darío Monsalve, on his Twitter account.

The politician’s family received the last proof of life in October 2020 through a video in which Mosquera assured that the illegal group accused him of “having collected $ 11,000 million in a process charged by Dr. Winston Leonel.”

The kidnapped probably referred to Winston Leonel Torres, known under the alias of “devil’s advocate” and convicted twice by the courts for embezzlement of health and education budgets in Chocó.

“The bishops have contacted, from the Episcopal Conference, the wife and we have transmitted this painful news,” added Monsalve. “We also reported the fact to the Nunciature, which requested his release as a gesture of will for humanitarian agreements in the territory, plagued by violence,” the archbishop advanced.

The High Commissioner for Peace, Juan Camilo Restrepo, rejected the death of Mosquera Asprilla and asked the guerrillas “to cease their criminal activities, kidnapping, the installation of antipersonnel mines, the recruitment of minors,” as well as drug trafficking.

“Things by name, he had been kidnapped by the Eln for more than two years,” said Restrepo, sending a message of condolence to Mosquera’s family.
