Tui Municipal Library Receives Donation of 2,000 Specialized Film Works and Becomes One of Galicia’s Best Cinematic Libraries

The Tui Library will become “one of the best specialized film libraries in Galicia”. This is how they assure it from the Concello after the donation of about 2,000 works specialized in this art and with more than 500 movies and other collections by Tui’s screenwriter, Daniel Dominguez.

This week, the Tui Municipal Library signed the donation agreement from the cinema library and other collections of Daniel Domínguez Pérez, a Tudense screenwriter who died in 2020, to the border council. The event was attended by the mayor, Enrique Cavaleiroand Domínguez’s widow, María of Los Angeles Garcia Dominguez. In this way, the library will have a special section made up of nearly 2,000 works specialized in cinema and more than 500 films on DVD.

Specifically, the donation made It covers more than 2,000 titles with the entire collection of books on cinema, art and photography by Daniel Domínguez. It also includes all its collections of movie magazines, DVD movies with more than 500 titles and original movie posters.

The donation also includes other valuables such as the collection of editions of “Treasure Island” in different formats and languagesand other very significant books in his work such as “Moby Dick”, the biography of Walter Benjamin, Fernando Person and clippings, photos, drawings and other decorative objects.

Thanks to this donation, “the Municipal Library of Tui now has one of the best libraries specialized in cinema in Galicia, which will substantially enrich its offer in audiovisual matters”, they say from the Concello. From this delivery, the Tudense library the work of cataloging this extensive collection will begin of works to be able to make it available to interested parties in the “shortest period of time possible”.

At the ceremony, the mayor of Tui thanked the family of Daniel Domínguez for this decision to donate the collection, which “expresses its closeness to our municipality and neighbors”.

Daniel Dominguez (Tui, 1955 – Corrubedo, 2020) He was a screenwriter with a long career. He was one of the authors of television series and films as emblematic of Galician culture as “Mareas Vivas”, “The laws of Celavella”, “Padre Casares”, “Miña sogra máis eu”, “A vida por diante” and “Branca Madison”, among others. In 2002 he received the Mestre Mateo for the best screenplay for “Terra de Miranda”.

He was also one of the founders of the School of Image and Sound of A Coruña and his cinephile erudition was evident in his numerous collaborations as a film critic, but, above all, through his blog “La escuela de los domingos”. He is a pioneer and key figure in Galician cinema and audiovisuals, being one of the key figures in this sector in recent decades.
