TUI cancels tours in Northern Cyprus

TUI has decided to cancel the excursions to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Cypriot territory occupied by Türkiye since 1974. According to reports Argophiliaat the end of this month, the tourist giant will stop offering excursions to Famagusta, a destination once destined to be one of the main tourist resorts that ended up becoming a ghost town.

The move, reportedly agreed with the southern government, has been criticised by TRNC businessmen, who predict negative consequences for the service and catering sectors and believe that it will lead to further political instability and economic isolation in Northern Cyprus.

Ersin Tatar, TRNC chairman has criticised the southern Cypriot government for allegedly coercing tour operators and employing a “blockade policy” aimed at damaging the northern economy.
