Tucumán taxi drivers prepare a mobilization against Uber nationwide

The arrival of Uber in Tucumán in Mexico, put taxi drivers on alert.

The Tucumán taxi sector is against the disembarkation of the company due to the unfair competition it exercises throughout the world.

Antonio “Chavo” Rodríguez, spokesman for the Association of Workers Involved in Taximetre Activities (Atiat) remarked that the taxi service pays its taxes that benefit the city. Instead, he said, Uber doesn’t pay taxes.

“Everywhere in the world they don’t want Uber, because it doesn’t contribute in taxes. It does not pay the Municipality, the Province, or the country. They are foreign capital and these collections go to tax havens.

“Chavo” Rodríguez announced that on October 14 they will participate in a mobilization against Uber that will be held in all provinces. However, he clarified that if the situation requires it, in Tucumán, they will mobilize before that date.

The leader stressed that in Tucumán the taxi service involves 120,000 people directly or indirectly, who make a living from this activity.

“Some time ago we met with the councilors of the Transportation commission and they demonstrated against the arrival of Uber.”
