The most disturbing moment of the Southampton – Chelsea game was the replacement of Callum Hudson-Odoi by Hakim Ziyech with a quarter of an hour to go.
The young England international came into play at the break to replace Abraham. Only Tuchel, with his tactical science, took it out half an hour later to make way for the Atlas Lion, Hakim Ziyech.
The German technician explains this particularly painful choice for Odoi and for Ziyech who could have entered after the break. “The only reason for the change is that I was not happy with his body language and posture when applying pressure“, Said the Chelsea manager on beIN Sports . “I felt like he is not ready to give the team what I want from him.“
Odoi didn’t really appreciate his replacement and that can be understood. “He suffers from this decision, but that’s how it is“Said Tuchel. “It’s difficult, but tomorrow it will be forgotten.”
Chelsea were surprised by a goal from Takumi Minamino, who knocked out César Azpilicueta and Édouard Mendy before pushing the ball deep. Thanks to a penalty from Mason Mount, the Londoners returned to 1-1.
“Sometimes a shot from the opponent is enough in football“, Explains Tuchel. “When you find out, it becomes more and more difficult. We were good in the first eighty yards, but we made bad choices in the last twenty yards and we lacked determination and aggression in the penalty area.“
