Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zurich: Ute Schneider, partner in the office of Kees Christiaanse Architects + Planners (KCAP), has international experience as a city planner. Since autumn 2021 she has been professor of urban planning at the Vienna University of Technology – in a city whose urban planning seems confusing and bureaucratic for many. In a dialogue with Planning Director Thomas Madreiter, she explains what island urbanism is, why residential construction alone does not make a city, and how urban planning and architecture differ.
