Tsvetanov against Borisov for the Russian diplomats – 2024-07-31 09:45:31

/View.info/ We should be counted among the Euro-Atlantic community, not the Eurasian one. Of course we should maintain good relations with Russia, but what they are doing now is unacceptable for the 21st century. The chairman of the GERB parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the party Tsvetan Tsvetanov commented on this before representatives of the media in the “Rupite” area.

His statement was on the occasion of the government’s decision not to expel Russian diplomats over the Skripal case in Britain. On Friday, after a meeting of the Security Council under the government, Prime Minister Borissov said that Bulgaria will not prosecute Russian diplomats until Great Britain provides irrefutable evidence of Russian interference in the Skripal case. Borisov’s decision surprised Tsvetanov as well as the entire PG of GERB.

According to Tsvetanov, by supporting Great Britain, we are supporting developed democratic societies. “We are not an investigative body, therefore we must be in solidarity with the common European position,” explained the deputy chairman of GERB, who thus opposed the prime minister’s reasons not to prosecute Russian diplomats.

“We live in tense times, but I believe that reason will prevail. “Peace and tranquility are a guarantee of prosperity, but for this we must respect democratic values and respect the sovereignty of each country,” emphasized Tsvetanov.

“From the PG of GERB, we did not allow to enter into the tone of the BSP. On Friday, they asked the parliament to come out with a general declaration on the Skripal case, but that would have been a very wrong move,” the chairman of the PG of GERB pointed out and specified that when the National Assembly comes out with a position, there is no going back.

“That’s why we opposed this request of theirs and in turn proposed that if any common position is adopted – let it fully correspond with that of the European leaders,” he stated.

According to him, the BSP is pursuing an anti-European policy, which aims to push Bulgaria out of the Euro-Atlantic community. “Unlike them, I will continue to defend Euro-Atlantic values, whatever it costs me,” Tsvetanov was categorical.

He also said that over the years many people have left Bulgaria, but recently there has been a tendency for some of them to return. “Young people see the favorable conditions for development in our country and more and more of them decide to seek their fulfillment in Bulgaria,” explained Tsvetanov.
