Tsvetan Vassilev will become a refugee – 2024-10-01 20:20:40

/ world today news/ Vassilev is thinking of asylum in Serbia.
Everyone betrayed me, the banker announced

Tsvetan Vassilev will become a refugee. Yesterday, after appearing before the media for the first time in Serbia, the banker said that he was considering the possibility of requesting political asylum from the authorities in our western neighbor. At exactly 12:30 Serbian time, Vasilev, wanted by Interpol until Monday, walked to the police station in Belgrade. He is obliged to appear and sign there every day. The banker appeared without security, accompanied only by his lawyer – Iliya Ilievski. In his career, the lawyer has defended some of the biggest criminals in our western neighbor. Visibly worried and weakened, Tsvetan Vassilev did not want to stop in front of the media, but nevertheless answered the reporter’s questions. Vasilev stated to “Standart” that he will not return to Bulgaria voluntarily, but will wait for “absolutely the entire procedure within the legal term before the High Court in Belgrade on the request for extradition by the Bulgarian authorities”. According to him, it can last up to a year. “I assume that my lawyers will say what our next step will be. I am in an official extradition procedure. I want the procedure to go all the way,” Vassilev explained.
The banker commented that the investigation being conducted against him in Bulgaria is politically motivated and that “the puppets of the attack are the former Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski and the head of the BNB Ivan Iskrov”. “I am under unmanageable political pressure,” he added, and declared that “he will return to Bulgaria when he feels safe.” Ten minutes after entering the police station to sign in, the banker left the police station and again accompanied by his lawyer, headed to the Square Nine Hotel where he was staying. “I feel betrayed by everyone,” the banker added. As on the day of the transfer of Tsvetan Vassilev, the Serbian media had a great interest in the development of the case with the banker yesterday. “In front of the judge already on Monday evening, Vassilev stated that he has no intention of leaving Serbia and returning to Bulgaria,” media representatives in Belgrade said. They also commented that the authorities in Belgrade are worried about the development of the case, as they are interested in membership in the European Union, and a possible delay in the extradition of Tsvetan Vasilev would cast “a lot of questions on the work of the judicial system in Serbia.”
