January 25, 2024 After last weekend’s overtime thriller against bottom team Schwabach, TSV Wasserburg, the table leader in the 2nd Toyota Women’s Basketball Bundesliga, will face the women from DJK Don Bosco Bamberg this Saturday. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. in the Graf Stauffenberg School sports hall.
After a used season in 2022/23, when they had just been relegated from the first league and were almost pushed through to the regional league in second-to-last place after the main round, the Upper Bavarians have picked themselves up again this season. The eleven-time German champions currently have two defeats and eleven wins. One of the two defeats came from last weekend, when the BasCats Heidelberg took the points from the Innstadt at 67:71.
TSV is supported primarily by its three professional players, Simmons, Shafer and Santos, as well as the two Perner sisters, Marie and Sophie, who all average double-digit points. On the Bamberg side there is a big question mark regarding the use of Courtney Curtis. Otherwise, all the other players on the Don Bosco team are probably on board and want to add another sense of achievement to the two wins in a row. That may well be within the realm of possibility in this balanced league.
DJK coach Steffen Dauer sees the following prerequisites for this: “It will be crucial for us to be wide awake throughout the entire season and to improve in all areas compared to the last game. We have to act more consistently under both baskets than before. And defensively we have to manage as a team to force difficult throws.”
