Because the search for a new head coach to replace Maurizio Jacobacci at TSV 1860 Munich continues to stall, interim coach Frank Schmöller, who is actually responsible for the U21s, is continuing for the time being.
The search for a trainer is dragging on
As the Lions announced on Monday, the 57-year-old will “initially” be responsible for the team. Schmöller had already looked after the team in the last two games before the winter break, but was not an option as a permanent solution due to the lack of a UEFA Pro license. A corresponding transition period expired on December 21st, so the Lions should have appointed a trainer with the appropriate license by December 22nd at the latest. The fact that this did not happen was due to a meeting of the advisory board that day being canceled at short notice. Christian Werner should have been appointed as sports director first, and then the coaching question would probably have been answered. Ex-FCK coach Marco Antwerp is considered the favorite.
However, the investor side around Hasan Ismaik did not appear at the meeting (partly due to illness), so the committee did not have a quorum. The investor representatives then rejected a decision by circular procedure, so a new meeting must be called, which, however, cannot take place until mid-January at the earliest. President Robert Reisinger therefore recently suspected “political calculation” in the blockade stance on the part of investors, which supervisory board boss Saki Stimoniaris, however, rejected. The fact is: The Lions are now threatened with a fine from the DFB for exceeding the transition period.
“I would help the club”
Regardless of the new disputes between the shareholders, Schmöller’s aim will now be to rebuild an unsettled team that has lost seven of the last eight competitive games and has not scored a goal in five games. A turnaround is essential after the winter break, as the lead over the relegation places is now only two points. Will Schmöller be able to get back on track? He had recently expressed his fundamental willingness to get involved with the professionals: “I would help the club if the request came. I am there for the club and have learned to love it.” Now came the request. How long the actual U21 coach will have to help out again is completely open. A quick agreement between the shareholders does not appear to be in sight for the time being.
