Tsunami Threat in Japan and Russia: Houses Collapse and Evacuations Announced

In particular, Ishikawa authorities reported that houses had collapsed in some areas. About 32 thousand houses were left without electricity.

As we reported earlier, after the earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency declared a threat of a tsunami traveling through the waters of the west coast to a number of populated areas of the country.

According to Russian media, a tsunami threat was also declared in Vladivostok and Nakhodka. The threat of flooding was also announced in the coastal part of the western coast of Russian Sakhalin. In this regard, an evacuation was also announced, as reported by the leadership of emergency officials in the region.

“Everyone who is in the coastal part of the Tatar Strait should immediately leave the coast and hide at heights of 30-40 meters above sea level… You should leave the heights only after the signal “Tsunami alarm clears,” the message said.

But it soon disappeared from the department’s website, and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that the warning system had not been launched, evacuations were not being carried out, and there was no threat to the population.

The mayor’s office of Nakhodka later said that the tsunami wave in the city passed almost unnoticed.
