TSMC Technology Symposium 2022 – Flexible finfets and the 2nm

In this article we discuss the TSMC 2022 Technology Symposium, at which Tweakers was present. We will discuss, among other things, TSMC’s future N3 process with ‘flexible’ transistor configurations and TSMC’s first 2nm process with new nanosheet transistors and an entirely new power supply system. In addition, we look ahead, beyond 2nm with new transistor types and possibly even silicon replacements. We also discuss the new chip factories that the Taiwanese chip maker is planning and the expectation that TSMC will not set up a chip factory in Europe for the time being.

In Amsterdam, TSMC again held a physical performance of its annual Technology Symposium for the first time since 2019. During these meetings, TSMC shares the latest on the roadmap for its upcoming product generations. The Taiwanese chip giant makes chips for companies like Apple, AMD and Nvidia, so in fact the company’s symposium sheds some light on the techniques such chip designers will use in the coming years to create even faster and more energy-efficient chips.
