TSMC Evacuates Factories After Major Earthquake Hits Taiwan: Threatens Global Chip Production

Leading Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer TSMC is evacuating its factory sites on the island due to a major earthquake, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

“TSMC evacuated its factory floor after a major earthquake rocked its home island on Wednesday, threatening production at the world’s largest maker of advanced chips,” the agency said in a statement.

It is noted that the company is still assessing the damage caused. According to Bloomberg, the company cooperates with corporations such as Apple and Nvidia, and the slightest vibrations can destroy entire batches of semiconductors created with high precision.

On Wednesday morning local time, a series of powerful earthquakes occurred near the east coast of Taiwan. According to Japan’s main meteorological agency, the magnitude of the most powerful of them was 7.7. After this, earthquakes of magnitude 6.6 and 6.3 occurred. Judging by the footage posted by users on the social network X, some buildings in Taiwan were damaged – they tilted and were partially destroyed.
