Hamburg’s mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) spoke out in an interview with the Hamburg Journal on Saturday for uniform and clear corona rules for all of Germany. He further assessed the infection situation as very tense.
Tschentscher judged the first night of the curfew in Hamburg to be effective. The police reported that very little was going on. Most of the people who were approached during the controls had good reason to leave their homes. Tschentscher emphasized that the curfew in Hamburg must be maintained “as long as we have not yet reduced the incidence sufficiently.” The limit for this restriction is about an incidence of 100.
Incidence less reliable over Easter
When asked about the need for a nationwide lockdown, Tschentscher first pointed out that the incidence figures over the holidays were not very reliable. “We should assume that we really still have a very tense infection situation”.
“My assessment for some time has been that we have too big a patchwork quilt, but we have to go ahead now because our numbers have risen significantly,” the mayor continued. A patchwork quilt leads to confusion among people and there is a lot of mobility when there are different regulations for store openings. “That is why my recommendation would now be to introduce uniform and clear measures for the whole of Germany,” said Tschentscher.
Corona vaccination for people aged 75 and over
With regard to the age limit for corona vaccinations in Hamburg, Tschentscher made it clear that the call currently applies to fellow citizens aged 75 and over. However, not all people in this age group would have received the letter with a written request. But one can wait for this, “not everyone has to pick up the phone at the same time.”
According to Tschentscher, Hamburg is making good progress with vaccination. The SPD politician pointed out that in the vaccination center for the first time The mark of 6,000 vaccinations in one day has been broken. “We have already used almost 90 percent of our vaccine and are waiting for new deliveries every day,” Tschentscher continued.
Schools close at an incidence of 200
According to Tschentscher in Hamburg, school closings have been agreed with an incidence of 200 or more. “We are still a tad away from it at the moment, but of course we have to reckon with everything”. That is why the school senator and the schools have now prepared themselves for the fact that this limit could be reached. “Of course I hope that we will now reach a plateau and that it is not necessary to end the cautious alternation lessons.”
