Tsatsarov lost. K. Petkov is not a slanderer

Tsatsarov – not defamed, K. Petkov – not convicted

Former chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov lost the defamation case he was leading against ex-prime minister Kiril Petkov.

Shortly before resigning as chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Tsatsarov filed a lawsuit against Petkov in the Sofia District Court. He was because of his interview. It said the former attorney general’s clearance to classified information was revoked because he was “unreliable.”

In his complaint, Tsatsarov wrote that this statement damaged his personal and professional authority, honor and dignity. And Petkov’s words caused him psychological and physical discomfort, concern, worry and anxiety.

“The criticisms and negative assessments expressed are within the framework of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of opinion, and the stated assessments, even if negative, do not affect the honor and dignity of Sotir Tsatsarov,” however, according to judge Denitsa Tsvetkova.

Its decision is not final and can be appealed to the Sofia City Court.
