SYRIZA’s Digital Governance department head, Popi Tsapanidou, launched an attack on the government in the Parliament, against the backdrop of the shrinking of its powers ADAE by vehicle the cybersecurity bill.
“At a time when the wiretapping scandal in Greece is being condemned internationally even in magazines of global reach and readership such as the New Yorker, the Mitsotakis government is instrumentalizing an important directive on Cybersecurity in order to eliminate the independent Authority, which did not consent to the attempt to cover up the surveillance he said.
He also pointed out the government’s intolerance of the proper and conscientious operation of the constitutionally protected independent Authority and directly accused it of continuing the unprecedented attacks and covert prosecutions, such as that of Article 32 of the bill under discussion, which further abolishes important powers of the AIAEA.
After urgently requesting the withdrawal of the unacceptable provision, Mrs. Tsapanidou emphasized that even for an apparently mild and functional integration of the EU directive into internal legislation, the government managed – with its dark methods and monumental sloppiness – to blow it up, depriving the country of a strong, clear and functional national framework for cybersecurity.
