Construction and launch
Trypilska Thermal Power Plant was the most powerful power plant in the Kyiv region, as well as the largest supplier of electricity to the Kyiv, Cherkassy and Zhytomyr regions.
The enterprise occupies an area of 281.3 hectares and is located in the Obukhovsky district.
The site for the construction of the Tripolye State District Power Plant – a state regional power plant – on the shore of the Kanev Reservoir was approved in 1962 by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1963, the necessary design documentation was created and the first construction work began.

The construction of the main structures of the thermal power plant began a little later – in 1967.

The construction of the Tripolskaya GRES was carried out using a progressive flow-speed method, which made it possible to significantly reduce the construction time of the facility in two stages:
- At first, double-case boilers were installed that ran on solid fuel and natural gas.
- secondly – single-case gas-oil boilers

Already at the end of 1969, the state commission accepted the first power unit of the thermal power plant into commercial operation.
The last – sixth – power unit was put into operation in September 1972. Then the capacity of Trypilska Thermal Power Plant reached its design value – 1800 MW.
The following year, 1973, the construction of an underwater gas pipeline was also completed, which allowed the thermal power plant to use natural gas.

In general, the trusts Yuzhteploenergomontazh, Gidroelektromontazh, Gidromekhanizatsiya, Yugozapadtransstroy and many others joined the project.
The LvovORGRES enterprise did a lot of work on project analysis, commissioning and commissioning of equipment.
Activities during the years of independence and destruction
In 1995, Trypilska Thermal Power Plant became part of the established State Enterprise “Centrenergo”.

In 2000, technical solutions were implemented at Trypilska TPP to ensure the combustion of low-grade coal.
In general, since the beginning of operation, the power plant has produced more than 350 billion kWh of electricity and 5.5 million Gcal of heat.
The thermal power plant constantly worked to use secondary raw materials (ash and slag) for the needs of the national economy – for filling roads, manufacturing building materials, etc.
In addition, it has established itself as one of the most reliable and economical stations in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of a full-scale war with the Russian occupiers in 2022, the plant staff could rightfully be proud that the power plant, working in difficult conditions, continued to be one of the most reliable and capable of carrying the full electrical load.
However, on the night of April 11, 2024, massive enemy shelling with Kinzhal-type missiles and Shahed-type drones led to a fire at the station.

According to local residents, at least three Shaheds (or even more), as well as several missiles, “flew” towards the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant.
According to Centrenergo, the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant in the Kyiv region was “completely destroyed by a night strike by the Russian Federation.”
