Central Jakarta Metro Police arrested a head of non-governmental organization (NGO) Anti-corruption People’s Struggle Shield (Tamperak), Kepas Panagean Pangaribuan. Kepas Panagean was arrested on suspicion of extorting Rp 2.5 billion.
“It’s true, we have just arrested the chairman of the DPP NGO TAMPERAK, Kepas Panagean Pangaribuan, related to the crime of extortion. Arrested for trying to extort members of the National Police up to Rp 2.5 billion,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Hengki Haryadi when contacted by reporters, Monday (22 /11/2021).
Kepas Panagean Pangaribuan was arrested at the Tamperak Secretariat on Jl Palem V Petukangan Utara, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, at around 17.00 WIB this afternoon.
Hengki explained that Kepas Panagean was arrested after blackmailing members of the Menteng Police. In this action, the perpetrators intimidated the police by using the names of senior police officers and state officials.
Hengki suspects, the perpetrators have often done extortion. Hengki said that the perpetrators were not only blackmailing the police but other agencies.
“At the time of the extortion, the suspect said ‘don’t let me make it like other places’, meaning that he had often done it,” explained Hengki.
Currently, the perpetrator is still in custody Central Jakarta Metro Police. Police are still investigating the perpetrator’s statement.
