At the intersection of 42nd Street and Park Avenue, New York Central Station is definitely worth a visit, for the sumptuous architecture of its main hall. But there is another thing that I advise you to see in Grand Central Terminal, or rather to hear: the “Whispering Gallery” or whisper gallery… What is it? An arched hallway from the station allows two people to talk from one end of the hall to the other without anyone else being able to overhear the conversation. A kind of cordless telephone and without smartphone!
An original and romantic phone
Here in any case a means of communication as original as romantic to whisper sweet words. Legend has it that jazz musician Charles Mingus proposed to his wife here, using the Whispering Gallery. But where can you find the Whispering Gallery in Grand Central Terminal? It’s very simple: go down to the level of the “Dining Concourse” and go under the arch which faces the entrance to the Oyster Bar & Restaurant. Position yourself under one of the pillars of the arch and whisper your message to the person who is placed across the hall, diagonally. Bluffing!

To see how the Whispering Gallery works, here is a demonstration video. This is obviously done without special effects ????
