In this regard, Truss admitted to the British media that he does not expect a trade pact with the US in the “short or medium term”, given that there are no trade negotiations between the parties.
However, commentators stressed that the two leaders can find common ground on international issues such as the war in Ukraine or the relationship with China.
On the sidelines of the meeting with Biden, the premier highlighted his intention to have a constructive relationship with France and expressed the hope that the two countries can work together on many aspects.
His meeting with Macron is preceded by Truss’s controversial words during the conservative primary campaign to succeed Boris Johnson, in which he said that “it is in doubt” whether the French president is “friend or foe”.
On the occasion of its trip to New York, the conservative government Truss highlighted the UK’s commitment to match the military aid provided this year to Ukraine in 2023, estimated at 2,300 million pounds (about 2,622 million euros) , and to strengthen the security and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The executive stressed that Truss will remind world leaders that it is necessary to eliminate Russia’s energy dependence to put an end to the economic blackmail of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The UK is the second largest military donor to Ukraine, having trained 27,000 members of the Ukrainian military since 2015, while providing air defense systems, armored vehicles and non-lethal military equipment over the past year.
