Trump’s pick for DEA administrator withdraws from consideration

Florida Sheriff Withdraws from DEA Nomination

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister has withdrawn his name from consideration for the top position at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), citing the weighty responsibilities of the role. In a Tuesday post on X (formerly Twitter), Chronister explained his decision:

“Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration," he wrote.

Chronister emphasized ongoing commitments to the citizens of Hillsborough County:

"There is more work to be done for the citizens of Hillsborough County and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling. I sincerely appreciate the nomination, outpouring of support by the American people, and look forward to continuing my service as Sheriff of Hillsborough County,” he added.

The team handling Donald Trump’s presidential transition declined to comment on Chronister’s withdrawal.
