Former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club was partially closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, according to people with knowledge of the situation, including a member who was informed of the measure in a phone call on Friday.
A receptionist at the Palm Beach, Florida, club confirmed the news that the venue would be closed until further notice, but declined to give further details.
A person familiar with the club’s operations said that as a precaution they “partially closed” a “section of the club” for a short period and quarantined some employees.
The people made statements on the matter on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it openly. The number of cases, the closed sections of the club and the way in which what happened has affected the former presidential family is unknown at the moment.
Representatives for Trump and the Florida Department of Health had not responded to a call or email on Friday for comment.
Trump moved to Mar-a-Lago when he left Washington in January and for weeks has played golf, eaten with friends, and met with leaders of the Republican Party, preparing his political future because he considers running for the presidency again in 2024.
Trump was hospitalized with COVID-19 last year and then got vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Mar-a-Lago was the site of his first known exposure to the virus more than a year ago. A senior Brazilian official tested positive last year after being at the Mar-a-Lago club, where he posed for a photo near Trump and attended a family birthday party.
When Trump was president of the United States, the White House recorded several subsequent outbreaks for neglecting precautionary measures against the virus, such as resisting the use of masks and continuing to carry out acts with numerous people.
