A New York court suspended the bar license of Trump confidante Rudy Giuliani because of his role after the 2020 US presidential election. Giuliani had “in his capacity as attorney for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign team in connection with Trump’s failed re-election attempt in 2020 made demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, MPs and the public,” it said on Thursday.
The 77-year-old’s behavior endangers the public interest, so that a repeal is justified until the pending proceedings are finally ended. The suspension of the bar license relates to Giuliani’s work in the US state of New York.
Trump hired Giuliani in mid-November to lead legal efforts against the result of the presidential election and the victory of Democrat Joe Biden. The lawyer and former New York mayor repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that Trump was deprived of victory over Biden because of a vote stolen by the Democratic Party. Several lawsuits filed by Trump lawyers in various states failed due to a lack of evidence.
Former New York Mayor Giuliani is a loyal companion of Trump, but got him into trouble several times. He was a central figure in the Ukraine affair that sparked impeachment proceedings against Trump. Giuliani had also actively sought to get Ukraine to investigate Trump’s ultimately victorious challenger Biden.
