Staff resign after Trump protesters invade the Capitol

-President Donald Trump’s former secretary-general, Mick Mulvaini, an envoy to Northern Ireland, said he would resign as ambassador after being disappointed by the pro-Trump protesters’ intrusion into the Capitol.

In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box on the 7th (local time), Envoy Mulvaini said, “I told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that I would resign from my ambassador last night.”

“We didn’t agree with what we saw yesterday. “We agreed to make America great once again and ease taxes and regulations,” he said. “President Trump has done a lot of things we could be proud of, but yesterday they all disappeared.”

“President Trump is not the same as it was eight months ago,” he explained and “I cannot (no longer) stay here.” Other officials also announced that they could resign due to the incident, and said that some of those who decided to retain their positions were due to concerns about their successors.

“We talked with people who had decided to stay,” he said. “Some of them decided to stay because they were concerned that President Trump could fill in the worse.”

The incident continues to lead the Trump administration’s senior staff to “resignation”.

White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, Assistant Adviser Matthew Pottinger, White House Deputy Secretary Chris Riddell, and Stephanie Grisham, spokesman and chief secretary for First Lady Melania, submitted resignations.
