Trump wins the election in West Virginia and a key seat for the US Senate race

MADRID 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Republican candidate for the Presidency of the United States has won the presidential elections in the state of West Virginia, where the Republican candidate for the US Senate and governor of the state, Jim Justice, has also won the seat left vacant by the independent senator, formerly a Democrat. , Joe Manchin.

Trump’s victory in West Virginia grants the Republican four electoral votes and he now has 23 throughout tonight, on the way to the 270 needed for final victory. The former North American president already won victory in this state four years ago.

The partial elections to the Senate, which overlap with the presidential elections, will renew a third of the composition of the upper house by putting 34 seats of the 100 seats that comprise it at stake.

Right now there are 51 Democratic senators in the chamber, but they have already lost one with the resignation of Manchin in West Virginia and with the victory of Justice – as corroborated by the projections of the networks ABC, CBS and CNN -, and they could give up more seats in Montana, Wisconsin, Michigan or Pennsylvania.

In this 50-50 scenario drawn by Manchin’s withdrawal, the figure of the vice president’s vote to break ties is fundamental: a Republican victory here will mean that they will only need one more seat. If Democrat Harris wins and, therefore, her nominee, Tim Walz, is elected vice president, they will need two.
