The Guatemalan government on Thursday restricted the entry of Salvadorans into the country by all means, as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Health Ministry said in a statement, cited by AFP.

“The entry of Salvadorans by air, sea or land is restricted while the state of public calamity lasts,” said the note from the Guatemalan authorities, where so far no cases of the new virus have been officially confirmed.

However, the statement clarifies that it does not apply to carriers entering the land in commercial activities, although they must submit to due “sanitary control and leave the country immediately after dispatching or loading the merchandise.”

Guatemala also banned this week the entry of people arriving from China, Korea and Iran as well as the most affected countries in Europe, to prevent the new coronavirus from entering the country.
