It is not yet known how American aid to Ukraine will continue or not under the new US President Donald Trump. This was said by the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.
He recalled that the current US Secretary of State visited Brussels this week Anthony Blinkenwho said he was the president Joe Biden wants to strengthen military aid to Ukraine until the end of its mandate.
“It’s not like Donald Trump can flip a switch and the next day Ukraine will have nothing left. But Europe’s job is to show that we are not really passengers, but that we can take care of our own safety,” – he noted.
According to him, the statements of Trump and other Republicans regarding Ukraine are in some ways unclear.
“Personally, I’m still optimistic. You always have to prepare for every situation, that’s why I say that Europe must invest more in defense … At the same time, when I look at what Donald Trump says about China, about Iran, about security in the Middle East, as he talks about North Korea, it would be strange to me if Russia was not on this list,” – added the minister.
In addition, Lipavsky said that if Marco Rubio will be the US Secretary of State, this will be good news for the Czech Republic, as it will have a partner who knows geopolitics. He said Rubio, 53, will be a “fearless fighter who will never give in to our enemies.”
“It would be possible to negotiate with him on several issues, and we would certainly find common understanding with him,” – Lipavsky noted.
Let’s remember that Trump previously said that he would resolve the conflict in Ukraine as president-elect even before he was inaugurated. However, he did not explain how he plans to do this. In addition, those around the new US president have negative attitudes towards sending more weapons and money to Kyiv.
