Former US President Donald Trump will announce next year whether he will run for president again in 2024. The Republican said on Tuesday that he first wants to wait for the 2022 parliamentary elections.
Trump has said he plans to ensure that Republicans take the majority of the seats next year in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. To a large extent, the midterm elections will be a test of popularity for Joe Biden’s incumbent government.
“I think we have a very good chance of recapturing the House,” the controversial former president said in an interview with Fox News. “And there is actually a good chance that we will recapture the Senate. Then we will make a decision.”
According to Trump, his supporters are ready for him if he decides to run again in the presidential election.
In the interview, Trump encouraged Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19. That statement was striking, because many Republicans and Trump supporters are not waiting for a corona vaccine, according to surveys.
Apart from it Fox Newsinterview and a speech at a conservative conference in Florida recently, Trump has made little contact since he left the White House in January. Since his supporters stormed the Capitol, Trump has been banned from Twitter, the medium he used as a mouthpiece for a long time.
