Trump was enraged: He got a taste of his own medicine – 2024-04-16 22:33:46

The historic trial began on Monday in New York.

In the United States, Donald Trump and his campaign staff have fiercely denied the news that Trump fell asleep in the middle of the trial yesterday.

Among others, Maggie Haberman, the respected political editor of the New York Times, and the editor of the British newspaper Guardian Victoria Bekiempis reported that Trump fell asleep on the first day of the trial before the lunch break.

Other media have also reported on the matter, but Trump’s campaign claims the information as “fake news”.

– This is 100% fake news from “reporters” who weren’t even in the courtroom, Trump’s campaign states in a press release.

The campaign’s claim is not true. According to the news channel CNN, six journalists got into the courtroom, one of which is Haberman. In addition, a hundred journalists watched the events of the courtroom on TV screens in a separate room.

According to Bekiempis, Trump’s nap happened several times.

Also according to Haberman, Trump “seemed to take a nap a few times, his mouth went limp and his head dropped to his chest.” Trump also didn’t notice the notes from his lawyer until he woke up.

Trump’s first criminal trial began on Monday in Manhattan, New York. The historic trial deals with suspected accounting crimes related to money paid by Trump to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Some went wild

According to many, the 77-year-old Trump already looked tired when he arrived at the courthouse, so dozing off in the courtroom is understandable.

However, the situation is embarrassing for Trump, who has referred to President Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe”, i.e. “sleepy Joe”. In addition to this, Trump has attacked the 81-year-old Biden, claiming that he is too old to be president.

This mockery now seems to have hit Trump in the ankle. Social media has made a lot of fun about it. Shortly after the first news, the hashtag #SleepyDon, i.e. “sleepy Don”, trended in X.

The Lincoln Project, a group formed by former Republicans and often criticizing Trump, thought that Trump had exhausted himself by raging on his own Truth Social messaging service late into the night.

– #SleepyDon stayed up late writing rage posts on Truth Social, they write.

Another anti-Trump Republican group believes Trump’s nickname for Biden is all about projection. According to the suspicion, Trump’s accusations against others are actually confessions of his own actions.

– Sleepy Joe is a projection, like everything else, the group writes.

According to the British newspaper Independent, Trump has been referred to in social media, among other things Godfather-film series with the names Don Snorleone and The Nodfather.

In the former, the name of the Don Corleone character is combined with the word snore, in the latter, the front part of the English name of the films is replaced by the word nod, referring to nodding.

Own medicine

Some of the light prank messages contain a more direct message that Trump is not fit to be president.

– I prefer presidents who don’t fall asleep before their lunch break in their election interference lawsuit about kickbacks they paid to a porn star, writes one.

– If Sleepy Don is too low on energy to stay awake on the first day of his criminal trial, does he even have the stamina to be president? another asks.

Biden’s re-election campaign has also offered Trump his own medicine, although it has not collapsed directly into nominations. It was content to just publish a video clip of Haberman talking about Trump’s napping to CNN.
