Trump was asked to list three qualities about Harris and his answer was similar to hers.

Donald Trump was asked on Wednesday to name three qualities of his Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, a week after Harris asked him to do the same for the Republican candidate.

His response was very similar to hers.

“It’s a very difficult question,” Trump said at the end of a town hall hosted by Univision, the largest Spanish-language network in the United States. “That is the most difficult question. The others are easy.”

Trump began by saying that Harris had “really damaged our country” before praising his “survivability”.

Then came the poison dart.

“Because she was out of the race,” Trump said, referring to Harris’ withdrawal from the 2020 Democratic presidential campaign and this year’s surrogate for President. Joe Biden as a 2024 candidate.

He also noted that he “seems to have a long-term friendship” and that he “seems to have a good way about it.”

“I like some of his statements, some aspects of his behavior,” he said. “But in another way, I think he’s very bad for our country.”

It is a tradition in presidential elections to ask the candidates of the major parties to say something positive about their opponent, which sometimes leads to memorable moments and events. But Trump and Harris do not know each other personally, having met publicly at their debate in September. And in a tight race where both candidates have called their opponent a threat to democracy, it would not be expected that the supporters of the two candidates would praise their opponent.

Last week, Harris said Trump’s political approach “hurt”, noting that the Republican candidate has an “us versus them” approach. “I don’t think that’s healthy for our country and I don’t see it,” the vice president said.

Closing, he said: “I think Donald Trump loves his family and I think that’s very important,” he added: “But I don’t know him. I haven’t met to him only once… so I can’t say much more.”

The question for Trump and Harris was asked by the same person, Teresa Djedjro, 48, who was present at both events.

Eight years ago, when a pollster asked Trump and his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, to say something they each admired about their opponent, Clinton offered an initial response, saying to she admired Trump’s children, whom she called “very capable and hardworking.”

Trump said it was a “very nice compliment,” then added, “I’ll say this about Hillary: She doesn’t give up, she doesn’t give up. “I respect that.”

Both candidates, however, said they disagreed with the other on almost everything.
