The United States wants an import ban on a number of Chinese products. U.S. Customs Officers told Tuesday to Reuters that the country wants to block imports of cotton and tomato products from the West China region of Xinjiang because they were allegedly produced using forced labor.
Cotton and tomato products are two important exports for the Chinese economy. The White House will soon announce the import ban, and then immediately list five other products that would also be produced using forced labor.
The United States and China have been engaged in a trade war with each other for some time. Both countries are introducing many additional import tariffs for each other’s products. Last month, the US announced that goods from Hong Kong will now also be labeled ‘Made in China’ in the US, which means that the same import duties apply to those products as to Chinese products.
