Trump wants German brands to become American

In one of his last speeches, the former president and current Republican candidate, Donald Trump, once again put the future of the automotive industry in the United States on the table, directly targeting foreign brands.

In Savannah, Georgia, Trump offered tax and regulatory incentives to foreign automakers that decide to move production to U.S. soil. Meanwhile, he threatened with severe sanctions those who choose to continue manufacturing in other countries.

If he returns to the White House, the American politician will reduce the tax rate for “those who manufacture their products in the United States”, going from 21% to 15%. In this way, the candidate stated the following: “I want German car companies to become American car companies. “I want them to build their plants here.”

Today, brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Volkswagen, among others, already produce part of their range in factories located in the northern country. Hence, what Trump’s proposal seeks is to deepen this presence.

Finally, Trump specified that these opportunities would also reach Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, thus being able to skip the famous 100% tariffs on their imports, which makes them practically unviable to market there.

“We are going to give incentives and, if China and other countries want to come here and sell the cars, they will build plants here and hire our workers,” said the candidate.
