Donald Trump first held a press conference after his election defeat. He was talking about ‘operation warp speed’, the name his cabinet gave for the development of a vaccine against the coronavirus. “The vaccines are ready,” he said.

“Our approach is unseen, no one in the world has copied us,” Trump began his press conference. “Operation warp speed has enabled Pfizer to develop a vaccine that is 90 percent effective,” Trump said. Pfizer previously communicated that it was not part of “ operation warp speed, ” but that was “ unfortunate communication, ” Trump said. “In July, we released $ 1.95 billion for Pfizer to mass manufacture 100 million doses, with an option to purchase 600 million doses,” Trump said. “Our investment will make it possible to give the vaccine to Americans for free.”
The president also underlined that the vaccine was made “five times faster” than in normal times. “Nobody can believe it,” he said. Under a different president, it would still be stuck with the FDA now (the agency that controls the quality of medicines in a broad sense, ed).’
The vaccine will first go to the elderly, the frail and those in essential professions. “This process is starting now, millions of doses are ready and waiting for final approval,” Trump said. He added that the New York governor has refused the vaccines because he wants to wait for FDA approval.
Trump reiterated he will not proceed to a lockdown. ‘It costs lives and it causes many problems. The solution should never be worse than the problem itself, ”Trump said. “We understand this complicated disease, and we ask Americans to pay attention.”
