Donald Trump uses ‘Gloria’ and Umberto Tozzi gets angry. On Wednesday, January 6, in the rally that preceded the assault on Congress, the speakers broadcast the notes of the song recorded by the Italian artist in 1979. In Washington, before Trump’s intervention from the stage, the cover sung by Laura Branigan. The song, recorded in 1982, went to # 2 on the Hot Billboard 100 and stayed for 36 weeks on the charts – a record for a solo singer.
Tozzi, however, does not like that the song is combined with a day of violence and chaos. “They showed me a video in which one of my most famous and most cherished songs was used in acts of unprecedented violence by Donald Trump and his staff – he says in a video on Twitter -. I am famously an artist and a person who in the public and in the private sector has always preferred love to violence. In my songs and also in Gloria I sing the beauty of life, so I dissociate myself and as an author I am ready to defend the origins and principles of this song ” .
