US President Donald Trump announced Monday that he would receive the Democratic Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, who has become one of the figures in the fight against the coronavirus in the United States, on Tuesday.
“He will be in the Oval Office tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon,” said Mr. Trump, who for several days has welcomed his good understanding with Mr. Cuomo after having initially strongly criticized him, judging that he spoke too much but did not act enough.
“A lot of good things are happening in New York,” he said.
New York State is the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States, even though it appears to have weathered the worst of the crisis.
A native of New York like Donald Trump, Andrew Cuomo, 62, saw his popularity soar thanks to his management considered calm and determined of the epidemic.
The two have, it seems, avoided attacking too frontally in recent weeks, despite several exchanges of spades.
Friday, Mr. Cuomo thus estimated that the American president was doing “nothing” to support the gradual lifting of containment measures.
Donald Trump had previously advised Mr. Cuomo, via Twitter, to “spend more time acting and less complaining”.
