President Trump, the report continued, said privately that he is likely to declare victory if he wins or takes command of command in Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Texas, Iowa, Arizona and Georgia.
After news of the threat emerged, Trump suddenly denied it. He denies he will announce the presidential election victory prematurely. (Also read: Biden admits Trump can win with the strategy he plays)
Standing on a tarmac at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, Trump was asked about the report. “No, no, it’s a fake report,” he said.
Trump then quickly proceeded to talk about tallying votes after election day.
“I think it’s a terrible thing when ballots can be collected after an election,” Trump said. “I think it’s a bad thing when states are allowed to tabulate ballots for a long period of time after an election is over.”
“We will go in the evening, as soon as the election is over, we will go with our lawyers,” Trump was quoted as saying The Guardian, Monday (2/11/2020). (Check out the infographic: Donald Trump vs Joe Biden, Who is the Next US President?)
Rick Hasen, a professor of law and political science at UC Irvine, said Trump’s move to pursue a “scorched earth litigation strategy” was better than Trump announcing the competition early.
“Frankly it trumps the alternative (which Trump just declared victory too early),” Hasen wrote on Twitter.
