Trump sweeps the South Carolina Republican primary – 2024-02-28 05:54:04

Businessman Donald J. Trump won decisively during the Republican primary held recently in South Carolina, defeating his rival Nikki Haley, former governor of that state.

According to news agency projections AP, the former president obtained 59.8% of the total votes, while his only opponent obtained 39.5%. The rest of the votes were divided between candidates who had previously confirmed their exit from the race.

Now, the magnate obtained 44 more delegates to the National Convention of the Republican Party, thus maintaining the absolute dominance that he has been showing throughout the race to obtain his party’s nomination.

And Trump won significant victories in the primaries of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and the US Virgin Islands.

Trump’s victory in South Carolina increased the pressure on Haley, who despite her seemingly zero chances of winning, assured that she will continue in the race and will ask for the vote of Republican militants for the so-called Super Tuesday on March 5.

During this event they will take place simultaneously in the states of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. On that date, there will also be an election in the territory of American Samoa.

With each new primary result, the possibility of a rematch between Trump and Biden becomes more and more apparent. In that sense, both have come to give statements in which they imply that their confrontation has already been decided.

Trump believes that the Democrat’s administration has weakened the United States. The magnate also emphasized events such as the sudden withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and the large-scale invasion initiated by Russia in Ukraine.

Likewise, Trump has constantly criticized his rival for the high inflation that the country registered at the beginning of his term, as well as for his poor handling of the crisis on the US southern border.

For his part, Biden has intensified his fundraising trips around the country, directing direct statements to his potential rival in the upcoming 2024 elections in which he makes clear that he considers him a direct threat to the nation’s founding principles.
