Trump succeeded. The Senate approved his new judge just before the election

Trump’s candidate will strengthen the conservative majority in the nine-member tribunal by 6: 3. Senators voted late Monday night almost exclusively by party affiliation. 52 of them voted for Coney Barrett, while 48 members of the upper house of the US Congress were against her nomination.

The only Republican MP, Maine Sen. Susan Collins, voted against, saying she had nothing against the nomination of the nominee, but did not think it was appropriate to vote on her approval before the election.

Forty-eight-year-old Coney Barrett has been a judge of the Federal Court of Appeals in Chicago since 2017. He will replace the late Liberal Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Since his election, Trump has appointed two Supreme Court judges – Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh a year later. Judges of the US Supreme Court hold office for life.

In honor of Amy Coney Barrett, the president set up a party at the White House. A new Supreme Court judge took her oath in the presence of Trump, who had just returned from Pennsylvania, where he was campaigning.

“It’s a historic day for America,” said the head of the White House. Regarding the new Supreme Court judge, who is an ardent Catholic, opposes abortion and has seven children, he said he had excellent qualifications and praised, in his words, her pure character and generosity in faith. Conr Barrett told the assembly that she believed the judge’s job was to disregard her political preferences.

Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer, on the other hand, called today “one of the darkest days in American history.” He added that in his opinion, Barrett was not chosen for her qualifications, but for her radical right-wing views on abortion, civil rights and the environment.

Reuters reported that the US Senate had not yet approved any Supreme Court judge so shortly before the presidential election. Election day is already November 3. Democrats wanted to prevent the vote on a new judge before the election. They claimed that he should be chosen only by the winner of the vote.
