ANNOUNCEMENTS

Former US President Donald Trump is seeking re-election to the highest office in the United States. Shortly before a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, he submitted the necessary paperwork to the FEC, the federal election commission.

That makes him the first formal Republican candidate for the presidential nomination in the 2024 election. Trump said more than a week ago that he was going to make a “big announcement” today.

In a speech that lasted just over an hour and was broadcast live on American television, he addressed hundreds of sympathizers in a ballroom decorated with chandeliers and dozens of American flags. “To make America great again, I am announcing that I will run for president of the United States.”

“American comeback starts here,” he told his audience. “It won’t be my campaign, it will be ours.”

Trump, 76, hopes to become the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms. Grover Cleveland preceded him. His second term ended in 1897.
