(CNN) — President Donald Trump says the “Black Lives Matter” sign on Fifth Avenue in New York City is a “symbol of hatred” and implied that members of the New York Police Department should prevent it from taking place.
Trump also criticized New York Mayor Bill de Blasio for cutting the New York Police Department’s budget while spending money to paint a Black Lives Matter mural on Fifth Avenue in front of the Trump Tower.

“NYC is cutting $ $ from the police by BILLION DOLLARS, and yet @NYCMayor is going to paint a big, expensive, yellow Black Lives Matter sign on Fifth Avenue, denigrating this luxurious Avenue,” Trump tweeted.
De Blasio said the mural will be in a place that will draw the president’s attention, “just outside his door.”
“It is an important message for the entire nation and we obviously want the president to hear it because he has never shown respect for those three words,” De Blasio said on MSNBC Wednesday morning. “We are going to make it very clear to the president. It’s going to be right outside your door. “
Trump tweeted that the sign “will further antagonize the best in New York, who LOVE New York,” he said, referring to police.
He also hinted that members of the NYPD should do something to stop the mural.
“Perhaps our GREAT Police, who have been neutralized and despised by a mayor who hates and disrespects them, will not allow this symbol of hatred to cling to New York’s biggest street,” Trump wrote.
After midnight this Wednesday, the New York City Council approved budget cuts for the New York Police totaling $ 1 billion.
