Former US President Donald Trump revealed that he received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, prompting boos from the public in Dallas.
Trump broke the news Sunday night during the last stop of “The History Tour,” a live talk show he’s been doing with former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.
“Both the president and I are vaccinated,” O’Reilly said at the American Airlines Center, drawing some boos from the public, according to a video shared online by O’Reilly’s “No Spin News” page.
“Did you get the reinforcement?” He asked the ex-president. “Yes,” Trump replied. “I wore it too,” O’Reilly added, causing more boos from those present.
“No! No! No! No! No! ”Trump said, waving his reaction away.
While Trump has voiced opposition to making the vaccine mandatory, he has long taken credit for the vaccines developed during his presidency. At the same time, he has refused to urge his supporters to get vaccinated, although Republicans remain much less protected than Democrats.
For example, while other world leaders, including Vice President Mike Pence, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, received their doses publicly to promote the life-saving vaccine, Trump decided to receive theirs in private, in which represents an acknowledgment of the low popularity of the vaccine among its supporters. And while he has blamed the Biden administration for high levels of skepticism toward the vaccine, he repeatedly undermined public health recommendations while in office, encouraging the use of unproven treatments and downplaying the threat of the virus while treating. of prioritizing economic recovery and securing a second presidential term.
Trump had commented during an interview with the Wall Street Journal in September that he “probably” would not get the booster dose.
Ahead of the boos, Trump told the audience Sunday that they should “take the credit” for the success of the vaccines developed during his presidency.
Trump’s advisers did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
