Washington, Nov 5 (EFE).- The Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trumpwon the elections this Tuesday in the states of Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and Oklahoma, while the Democratic vice president, Kamala Harristook over Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut and the District of Columbia, according to major media projections.
With these states, Trump remains ahead of Harris in the count with 111 delegates to 38 in the Electoral College in its goal of reaching 270 that give victory.
It is about predictable victories for both candidates in states that were their strongholds in an election that will depend on seven states –Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada- of which the results are not yet known.
Americans do not decide by popular vote who will be their next president, but rather they designate a number of electors in each state who make up the Electoral College and who are in charge of choosing the next tenant of the White House.
270
The Electoral College has 538 delegates and, to win, Trump or Harris need at least a majority of 270.
The electoral colleges in half of the US states have already closed at 8:00 p.m. local time (01:00 GMT), including Pennsylvania, the pivotal state that grants the most delegates for the Electoral College and for which the results are not yet known . EFE
